4 Reasons WHY Filipinos RNs should NOT fear the NCLEX-RN

In 2015, Canada (except Québec) has officially harmonized her Entry-to-Practice RN Exam with the United States—the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses or better known as the NCLEX-RN. The NCLEX-RN is a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) that measures a nurse’s knowledge as an entry

Behind its interface are computer algorithms based on the competencies that determine how safe this nurse-examinee can perform nursing care thus it is impossible to take the same test and questions on your retake. No, you are trained to make it the first time. The exam knows your strengths and weaknesses. In other words, it is not just a PC platform test. No, we’re not scaring you!

Here are 4 reasons WHY Filipino nurses SHOULD NOT fear the NCLEX-RN:

1. Philippine Nursing Schools/Colleges of Nursing trained you to conquer the NCLEX-RN

Sometimes, your CIs are so overwhelmed with work that they tend to recycle or use old and recent NCLEX-RN questions on your mid-term and final exams. No, most of the time. But that’s a good thing.

2. Authors of your nursing books are mostly from North America.

Familiarity by theory gives you a heads up on how the North American healthcare system runs.

3. NCLEX-RN materials are sophisticated or handy nowadays

Millenials are lucky to have technology within reach. Unlike 10 years ago, you have to carry the heaviest, thickest NCLEX-RN Practice Test Books with you to the library or travel to your nearest review centre kilometres away from home. Now, we have NCLEX-RN apps that come handy on your smartphones, tablet computers and PC/laptop.

4. Passing the NCLEX-RN gives you BORDERLESS OPPORTUNITIES

Trump is not forever! NCLEX-RN passers can either work in the States or Canada as an RN vice versa after completing other registration requirements of a State/Provincial Regulatory RN Board. Yes. Conversely, you need not retake the NCLEX-RN. There is neither Canadian nor American NCLEX-RN. It’s an entry-to-practice RN exam of North America. Eyes on the prize!

Gov't urged: Develop foreign labor markets for nurses

MANILA, Philippines – The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) pushed for an "aggressive" deployment of nurses overseas given the "large surplus" of nurses in the country. "We would prefer the aggressive overseas deployment of nurses over the semi-skilled and unskilled workers, such as domestic helpers," TUCP president and former senator Ernesto Herrera said in a statement Thursday, May 29. Herrera cited numbers from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration which said the country – "one of the world’s largest producers of English-speaking nurses" – sends an average of 12,000 nurses abroad annually.
